Distributions: Using an Ancient Predictive Technique to Interpret Chapters of Life

This hands-on, intensive workshop will teach you how to use «distributions,» an ancient and powerful predictive technique, in both natal and solar return charts. Distributions (sometimes called directing through the bounds/terms) divide the life up into chapters, in which various issues will arise in life. Special rules govern when these affairs will be more intensified. When applied in a solar return, they can yield a year-long story with events that are accurately predicted to within a week or a day.

We will focus on distributions of the Ascendant, for general themes in life. Although there will be a lot of teaching, the day won’t really be effective unless we can do practical chart work: so please make sure you have attended the Friday lecture, or at least know some basic rules of traditional interpretation, profections, and whole-sign houses.

We will do a short review. Bring your chart in whole-sign houses (the best program for this is Delphic Oracle). Also, in order to make everything run more smoothly, Ben Dykes will print out your distribution information through Delphic Oracle, and a whole-sign chart if necessary: please send your birth information to charts@STARSinMN.org. All birth chart information is kept confidential. We will see how to combine distributions with transits, solar returns, and profections.

Distributions in the solar return can often identify themes and events that are accurately timed to days and weeks of the year. Attendees who provide their birth data will also be able to apply these techniques to their own birth charts, which will be provided.

Benjamin Dykes, PhD (Philosophy) is a leading medieval astrologer and translator. He earned his medieval astrology qualification from Robert Zoller and taught philosophy courses at universities in Illinois and Minnesota. He recently published Traditional Astrology for Today, The Forty Chapters of al-Kindi, and The Book of the Nine Judges. In 2012 he will publish a traditional work on elections, and translations in mundane astrology. In 2007–08 he translated Guido Bonatti’s Book of Astronomy and the Works of Sahl & Masha’allah, on all branches of traditional astrology. We will create the appropriate traditional natal chart with «whole sign» houses for you, if—prior to the meeting—you'll submit your birth data to charts@STARSinMN.org. Your traditional birth chart will wait for you at the meeting. All data will be kept confidential.
